Postdoctoral Hiring

We are currently accepting applications for postdoctoral psychotherapists beginning work in summer 2024.

Looking for your postdoctoral placement, or your professional home as a psychotherapist? Is your anticipated start date in the summer of 2024?

Perfect! We just might be looking for you!

We are a boutique, private pay group practice.  We support a great population of clients - typically high achieving college students through established professionals struggling with anxiety, relationships, family of origin concerns, self-esteem/body image, perinatal/parenting, and life transitions. They are motivated to do the work of therapy, and generally committed to long-term treatment relationships.

As a practice, we value:

  • Providing high quality clinical care from a range of theoretical approaches, and we welcome your unique voice to our mix

  • Providing open and affirming treatment to individuals of all backgrounds

  • Working together in a collegial, low-stress, productive, and supportive environment, with an emphasis on work/life balance and preventing clinician burnout

  • Providing a flexible schedule with virtual, in person (downtown DC) and hybrid options

  • Offering skilled administrative support

  • Valuing your skills with competitive compensation (1099/contractor)

  • Helping you succeed with referrals and a caseload of 18+ client sessions/week

Together, we’ll work in a warm, mentorship-oriented supervisory relationship focused on your clinical and professional goals. We’ll do this through:

  • Two hours of weekly clinical supervision (individual and group) provided by a Licensed Psychologist, in accordance with the DC requirements for Psychology licensure

  • A focus on building confidence in your own voice and clinical judgment, as well as encouraging thoughtfulness around professional identity and work-life balance

  • *Supervisees must be located in DC or Virginia due to licensing requirements

You are someone who:

  • Takes pride in their work, both as a clinician and as a colleague, and demonstrates a high level of professionalism

  • Enjoys learning and growing in your career, both through formal avenues and informal

  • Has experience providing outpatient psychotherapy to clients aged 18+

  • Ideally has experience treating some combination of anxiety, depression, relationships, academic/career stress, perinatal concerns, or disordered eating, and/or individuals from university student, LGBTQ+, international/1st gen, kink or non-monogamous communities (no need to have all of these - see our earlier point about learning and growing!)

  • Has a high level of professionalism, with the maturity to manage your own schedule, stay on top of notes, and communicate at a level commensurate with our downtown DC client population

  • Will have a doctoral degree in psychology and be eligible for DC and Virginia Psychology Associate/Resident licenses by September 2024

  • Likes coming into the office to see clients one or two days a week and then working virtually the rest of the time (though you might also want or need to work fully virtually, too, and we’re open to that conversation)

(If this sounds like you, but you’re a licensed psychologist, we are currently looking for a PSYPACT licensed/eligible psychologist as well. Please email hello@drdawnjohnson.com with your CV and availability - FT/PT; fully virtual or hybrid.  Fully licensed MA clinicians are welcome to apply; we are unfortunately not able to provide MA level supervision.)

To apply, please email your cover letter (yes, we read them!) and CV to Dr. Dawn Johnson at hello@drdawnjohnson.com (or click the apply now button below). In addition to telling us about yourself, please specify your availability, your interest in a hybrid or fully remote position, and confirm that you are willing and able to work from DC and/or Virginia as of September 2024.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Applicants must have US work authorization as of August 2024.  This role is unfortunately ineligible for sponsorship.
